In her youth Beatrix Potter made beautiful microscopic studies of insects, working at the newly-built Natural History Museum in London. Many years later she was able to use these in her illustrations for ‘The Tale of Mrs. Tittlemouse’. Mrs. Tittlemouse, the wood-mouse who helped to rescue the Flopsy Bunnies in an earlier book, was given her own story in 1910, and Beatrix Potter created delightful pictures of all the uninvited insect guests, from spiders to bees.
